To find that still voice within you you need only quiet down and allow your mind to relax. Can you do that? The human condition is a total distraction from this action. You are conditioned to always act without thinking. You are in a constant state of reaction. Do you notice that? You use your mind constantly to deny the happiness that resides deep within yourself. You need a mind training. The Course states that an untrained mind can accomplish nothing.
You have to give yourself the time, the attention. Do you think peace will come some day without your attention on it? Do you ever stop and ask yourself…what do I really want? What is it I truly seek to find?
If you truly wanted peace, you would have it. It is that simple. You do have all help the moment you ask, but you have to mean it and put your time your focus on that inner peace to have it. It’s an experience, not an intellectual exercise.
Right here and now, take a moment and go within yourself. Ask for the answer.
The illumination of your mind comes to you when you slow the thoughts down and relax into a new state. The incessant need to do something is an addiction. You are attacking yourself with these thoughts. You have covered your NOW. So, stop, release and relax into a surrender. The illumination is within you. You cannot find it outside. Your outside is projected from within you. This is key.
You need a focus: Let’s use Course Lessons 1- 3. Nothing I see means anything. I have given it all the meaning it has. But I don’t understand anything I see.
Everything you see you have given meaning to, you have been conditioned to define everything around you and tell it what it is. But you are not “feeling” it. It’s just a definition, cold, and all isolated from everything else. That is a chair, a window, a wall, a pencil, a body, etc. Find the meaning you have given it.
Now say, I don’t understand anything I see. Now there is room for a new perception. Until then, you are locked into your own definition of everything. It isn’t real, because you have given it the meaning out of your need to be defined and to define your world. This is not love. It is actually a defense of your own bodily identity.
Now, we move onto the level of thought: You will notice you have thoughts, constant thoughts. You cannot stop thinking. It’s OK. Your mind never stops thinking. It is always active.
Lesson 4: These thoughts do not mean anything. Good thoughts, bad thoughts, crazy thoughts, happy thoughts. NONE of them means anything. They can be let go. The long range purpose of this Course is to see the meaningless outside and the meaningful within. You will notice that your seeing is a reflection of your thoughts. But what are these thoughts really about?
Lesson 5: I am never upset for the reason I think. So, you are upset, and yet you don’t really know why.
Lesson 6: I am upset because I see something that is NOT THERE. So if it is not there, you are putting it there, so you don’t have to be upset, do you? You have a choice. But you are already upset. It’s too late. You can’t purify your thoughts. Just notice them. It’s OK. Just notice that you have these thoughts and they are upsetting. Admission of how you feel is important.
Lesson 7: I see only the past. If you are only projecting the past onto everything, you have defined everything you see, and you are missing the NOW. You wake up with the fear, the dread, the guilt of the past on your mind every day. AND YET, it is NOT THERE.
You are playing this game with yourself.
It is very reasonable that you would want to stop this game and play a better game. A game of enlightenment. A game of letting go and finding peace.
If you really asked yourself whether you want a different experience, you would find the answer. It is all here. The lessons point you to the experience, but you have to do them to have the experience.
That is something worth thinking about.
